Born 1963 in Suez; he graduated from the Faculty of Law in Cairo University in 1987, then moved to  the UK, in 1989, where he obtained a postgraduate diploma in directing and screenwriting from Beaconsfield School. In the UK, he wrote and directed “Room to Rent”, starring the American Juliette Lewis and the Moroccan Saïd Taghmaoui‏, then returned to Egypt to make several award winning films. His films have been shown in more than 150 international film festivals (Cannes, Montreal, New York, Rotterdam), winning thirty-five awards at the international and local levels.
